Metromny

As we all know on January 1st, 2026, the MetroCard will be retired for good. However, if you were unaware of what a MetroCard is/was than I can tell you! Since 1994, the MTA New York City Transit has issued fare cards called “MetroCard’s” and riders have swiped their way through the subways. However, in 2019 a new payment system was introduced called “OMNY” and in 2021, OMNY Cards.

For this portfolio piece, I decided that I wanted to pay tribute to the MetroCard by illustrating a card designed to look like a MetroCard but function as an OMNY Card. Nobody commissioned this work but rather it was designed for everyone to view as a farewell to the once widely used card.
